Our ISA Girls Basketball Team Crowned NSWCIS Champions for 2016.

ISA Girls Basketball

The ISA Girls Basketball team played a closely fought contest in the CIS Championships at Bankstown Basketball Stadium on 5th May. Players representing Barker College, Central Coast Grammar School, Chevalier College, Oakhill College and Redlands played an aggressive, fast-tempo style of play throughout the day. Coached by Michael Turton, all players worked hard to dominate early and keep their competitors at a distance. This strategy worked successfully for most games with the exception of the final game against NCIS where ISA were behind through the first half, however, finished strongly to take the fourth and final contest. As a result, ISA became NSWCIS Champions for 2016.

At the NSW All Schools Championships on 6th June in Terrigal, the NSWCIS team played a very strong series of games. In the first game CIS played a tight first three quarters against a challenging CHS team. With excellent speed, CIS increased the pressure to take a dominant lead and defeat CHS 71-57. Top scorers for CIS were Kimberley Hodge (Barker College) 15 points and Milly Yates (Redlands) 10 points.

In the second game CIS played CCC in what was certain to be a challenging game. Starting strongly CIS extended to a 15 point lead during the second quarter. With their second game in a row and CCC changing tactics, CCC gradually reduced the margin over the final two quarters to take the lead with only two minutes to go. While Elizajane Loader (Barker College) played a dominant role in scoring 17 points, CCC in the end defeated CIS 71-67. With each team taking a victory on the day, CIS won the championships on a count-back.

At the conclusion of the day the NSW All Schools Team was selected. In a team of 10, NSWCIS had 5 players chosen, with three from ISA: Kimberley Hodge (Barker College), Elizajane Loader (Barker College) and Milly Yates (Redlands). Congratulations to all players involved on the day. The NSW All Schools Team will play in the School Sports Australia Championships in Terrigal, NSW from 6th-12th August. We wish Kimberley, Elizajane and Milly all the best as they go on to represent NSW.
