ISA Cricket Representative Games 2015

Game 1 – ISA vs. CAS (22/2/2015) at St Patrick’s College, Strathfield.

The first game of the representative season saw ISA host CAS. CAS won the toss and elected to bat. Some steady run scoring and solid defence took them to 40 before Declan Armstrong struck twice and soon our visitors were at 2-48 after 17 overs. After some rebuilding phases, wickets were taken by Tom Mullen, followed by a run out and a wicket to Connor Farnell, after an excellent overhead catch on the boundary by Daniel Donato, slowed CAS to 6-184 after 46. Another wicket to Declan Armstrong was soon followed by another Tom Mullen wicket. Luke Powell then knocked over the CAS number ten to have his first wicket before Tom Mullen again struck to have CAS bowled out for 207 in the 49th over. Notable performances: Connor Farnell 2/28 (10), Declan Armstrong 3/39 (10) and Tom Mullen (3/45).

Michael Roberts (37) and Tom Mullen (29) then steadied the ship to take us through to the 23rd over before both boys lost their wickets with the score on 71. Nick McCamley (43) and Tom Galvin (39) then provided a sturdy backbone to our innings, characterised by solid defence, quick running and some explosive hitting both to and over the fence. Our chase took a slippery start when Daniel Heidegger was run out with our score on 9 in the 3rd over. Michael Roberts (37) and Tom Mullen (29) then steadied the ship to take us through to the 23rd over before both boys lost their wickets with the score on 71. Nick McCamley (43) and Tom Galvin (39) then provided a sturdy backbone to our innings, characterised by solid defence, quick running and some explosive hitting both to and over the fence. With our score on 145 in the 36th over we lost Nick and two overs later we lost Sam Cividin, leaving us in a tricky position at 5-150 after 38 overs. Daniel Donato (29*) and Tom consolidated and were looking comfortable at the crease until Tom was adjudged LBW in the 44th over with us still needing 30. Some good CAS bowling and fielding resulted in ISA losing both Connor Farnell and Michael Redman in the 45th over with our score on 181. Some powerful late hitting by Luke Powell (10*) and 14 runs coming from the last over, highlighted by a Daniel Donato six off the second last ball and a two off the last ball, saw ISA sneak home. Two years in a row the ISA have won in the final over against CAS. A great game and well played by all involved.

Game 2 – ISA vs. ASC (1/3/2015) at Bradman Oval, Bowral.

Our final game saw us host the ASC team at the renowned Bradman Oval. After winning the toss, ISA elected to bowl. Having to handle a wet ball on a flat pitch was well managed by the ISA boys in the first session and some good shots by the opening bats from ASC saw them get to 59 before losing their first wicket to Declan Armstrong (2/46). The ISA boys toiled hard on a pitch that gave them very little and in the 24th over Tom Mullen struck (4/27) followed by another in the 30th over to have ASC at 3/124. Another steady partnership eventuated and the ISA boys continued to throw themselves around in the field before Declan struck again before Connor Farnell (3-40) joined the party, with three wickets in the 42nd over. ASC were now 7/190. ISA were putting the squeeze on our opponents, leading to two more Tom Mullen wickets, a bowled and an LBW, in the 47th over. Some late hitting by the number five from ASC helped them to 9/240. This left us with a decent chase ahead, but nothing out of reach by any stretch.

Michael Roberts (75*) helped propel our chase at a rapid rate. He was complimented fantastically by Daniel Heidegger (24*). Some excellent running between wickets as well as some exciting hitting over the infield saw the ISA total get to 0-62 after 13 overs before rain forced us off for the first time. After a long delay, the ISA team resumed their chase and continued to play some excellent attacking cricket shots. Another unfortunate episode of rain eventuated after the ISA team managed to get to 0/116 in the 23rd over, with our target still firmly in our sights. This second rain spell didn’t allow play to resume and the Duckworth-Lewis system was called upon to decide the match. With a par score of 102 needed, ISA were awarded the win.

Thank you to all players and parents for your efforts and enthusiasm. In both games you demonstrated a high degree of skill and played the game with both maturity and a competitive spirit. Also a big thank you to Luke Reynolds for all your support and assistance over the past two games, your insight and professionalism was greatly appreciated by both the boys and myself.
