ISA Sporting Excellence Award for Sportsmanship

The 2017 ISA Sporting Excellence Awards saw an award be presented to a student who displayed sporting excellence outside the established criteria.

During the running of the 17 Years 6000m event at the 2017 NSWCIS Cross Country Championships, William Barnett, a Year 11 student from St Stanislaus’ College, stopped his own race to assist a fellow ISA injured athlete. He did this at the expense of a potential place in the NSWCIS Cross Country Team to compete at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships.

William has been representing St Stanislaus’ College at the ISA Cross Country Championships for 5 years, working his way up from 64th place as a 13 year old to 8th place as a 17 year old. He has gained selection in the ISA Representative Team since 2015.

We congratulate William on such an outstanding display of good sportsmanship epitomised by the spirit of dignity and responsible behaviour.
